About Rahim

Edmonton raised him. He’s spent his life working for it.

Rahim’s family came to Edmonton as refugees from Idi Amin’s Uganda when he was a baby. They built a life here from scratch, and he grew up watching his parents work the counter of their own small business.

He studied political science and economics at the University of Ottawa, later earned his MBA at the University of Alberta, and has spent the 3 decades since serving this city: in Ottawa, behind a restaurant counter, and on the campaign trail.

1997 – 2008

Member of Parliament

Elected 4 times in Edmonton–Strathcona. Chaired the Conservative caucus from 2006 to 2008, and was the first Muslim ever elected to the House of Commons.

Business Owner

Runs Rooster Kitchen & Bar, the spot his parents operated for 16 years. He knows payroll, permits and property tax from the side of the counter that pays them.

2025

Ran for Mayor

Took a city-wide campaign to every corner of Edmonton on freezing taxes, 500 more police officers, and permits approved within 30 days.
